Before & After of the Week

this entry has 0 Comments/ in Before and After of the Week, General Organizing, Innovatively Organized, Kitchen / by Innovatively Organized
December 29, 2011
Service: Residential Organizing

Challenge:
This couple bought their home a few years ago with the builder shelves installed in the pantry.  They have quite a large pantry, but the type of storage provided to them just was not quite enough to make efficient use of their space.  They had cans stacked three or four deep which made it difficult to tell what they already had in the pantry.  Also, there was no rhyme or reason as to why certain things were placed in a certain area.

Solution:
We sorted through all the food and small appliances/serving dishes in the pantry, purged what was old, expired, or never used, and discussed what food items they use the most frequently.  We then took detailed measurements, took inventory of all the food that is typically in the pantry, and created a space plan to maximize the storage in their pantry. Also, we provided the clients with product suggestions for food storage.

Result:
The pantry is now a space that they are excited to use. Having a space that allows them to know exactly what they have and thus what they need to buy provides them a sense of peace.  Both of our clients can now find exactly what they need, when they need it!

Innovative Idea: Color Code Your Home

December 27, 2011
If your goal for the new year is better organization for your home and family, we’ve got the perfect solution: color coding your home!  Before you start highlighting all of your files and supplies, re-think your concept of color coding.  Have each family member choose their favorite color, then head to an office supply store and container store.  Buy items in one of each family member’s color, like inbox folders, pin boards, and stationary.  You can go as far as color coding your toothbrushes!  It brings a cohesive color scheme to your house, and allows you to quickly distinguish items.

Article: 10 Time-Management Tips that Work

this entry has 0 Comments/ in Article, Time Management and Productivity / by Innovatively Organized
December 19, 2011
So you’ve installed and synced all of the calendar and productivity apps available to man- Google calendar, Remember the Milk, Toodledo and Teux Deux.  You have a set schedule and outline your to-do lists daily.  But for some reason, time-management remains an elusive concept that you just can’t get a grasp on.

We found this article, “10 Time-Management Tips that Work” to be quite interesting.  It explains the difference between clock time (hours and seconds) and real time (your mental perception of time passing).  We create our schedules and lists in clock time, yet we experience everything in real time.  There is a serious disconnect.

Explore this article for ten tips of managing your day better.  We especially recommend tip 8: “Practice not answering the phone just because it’s ringing and e-mails just because they show up.  Disconnect instant messaging.  Don’t instantly give people your attention unless it’s absolutely crucial in your business to offer an immediate human response. Instead, schedule a time to answer email and return phone calls.”  We believe this is a valuable habit: just because your phone is next to you and you see an email come in, does not mean you need to respond to it immediately.  Remember the days when you actually had to “check” your email?  With information coming to us at all hours of the day, at all locations, we feel obligated to attend to people immediately.  When in actuality, we are in charge of our time and when we act on communication.

What are your thoughts?

Product Spotlight: The Bag Bungee

this entry has 0 Comments/ in Business Organizing, Product Spotlight, Travel / by Innovatively Organized
December 16, 2011
Description:
You just got dropped off at the airport with two suitcases and a carry-on.  Because you’re also carrying your jacket, a coffee, and your boarding pass, you are about three hands short of being able to move all of your things. You decide to rest your carry-on above one of your suitcases, but can only move two feet before it falls off.  You readjust and continue the next two feet, continuing this frustrating process until you reach the baggage counter…

Does this situation sound familiar?  For those who travel frequently, or for those who tend to over-pack, the Bag Bungee is a great solution.  You slip it through your suitcase handle and attach it around a bag or carry-on resting on top.  Your bag won’t shift or fall, allowing you to “carry more with less effort”!

You’ll love it for:
•  Frequent business trips
•  Traveling solo
•  College kids going to and from school
•  Helping a bad back

Cost: $9.99
