Keep Music Files Synced Too

Music on-the-go is almost as important as files on-the-go these days, especially with the amount of time we spend in the car, on a plane, at the gym, and in our offices at home and work.

If you play iTunes on multiple devices, such as your laptop, iPod, or smartphone, using Dropbox can help back up and organize all your songs and sync your music library between devices. Since files are always synced to Dropbox, you can simply log into Dropbox on any of your computers or mobile phone and have quick access to any song in your iTunes library.

Storing and organizing decorations is comparable to filing papers – make it easy to find and retrieve. In the case of holiday lights, they should be easy to find and hang without wasting time untangling them. This season when you put away your lights, wind each strand around a piece of cardboard before placing them back in the box. And then don’t forget to label the box, too!

With so many gift exchanges happening this month, it’s likely you may receive an item or two that you don’t need or love. A green solution is to regift the item to another person who may need it or treasure it more than you. This does not mean passing an item that you consider to be useless or silly – this is called “clutter passing”. The only places clutter should go is a donation bin, recycling bin, or trash bin!

Here are a few guidelines to help you get started:

Never regift handmade or one-of-a-kind items, monogrammed items, or free promotional items.
Only new, unopened gifts in good condition should be considered for regifting.
Never give partially used gift cards.
Don’t give items that you have owned for a long time.
A general rule of thumb: if you have to dust it off, it is not regiftable.

“How to Procrastinate”: What Not to Do

Would you like to know how to “Expand Time with Procrastination” or to learn “Your Procrastination Style”? Although humorous, this book from “The Self-Hurt Series” is a great example of what not to do to be more productive. In fact, it is a great resource for how to be less productive, which of course we do not recommend!

It gave us a few chuckles and we hope it does the same for you. But please keep in mind that our goal for you, and we hope your goal as well, is to become more productive in your day, not to learn “How to Procrastinate”!

Here are some “clutter free” holiday gift ideas to consider this year:

Experiences – Sometimes the things that people enjoy the most are not really things. Tickets to a play, concert, sporting event make fun gifts. Also, booking an activity like a cooking class or pottery-making can be ideal for a hobbyist. Gift certificates for pampering like facials, massages and manicures are also things the recipients will likely use and appreciate.

Donations – Making a donation to a charity in someone else’s name lets you advocate for a good cause and focus on goodwill during the holidays. It also shows the recipient that you recognize and support their favorite charity.

Edibles – Holiday baked items like bread, cookies, cake and sweets such as chocolates are perfect gifts for the person who has a sweet tooth. Or for the foodie or wine connoisseur, a nice basket of cheeses and fruit or a bottle of wine will quickly be consumed.

Gift certificates – Give someone the choice to get exactly what they want when they want it. It can be for a specific store or a website that has a broad range of items such as Amazon.com.
