Organizing Holiday Moments

With friends, family and festivities, there will be lots of picture taking in the coming weeks. Be prepared by having your camera readily accessible and fully charged. Also, keep extra batteries or the charger in the camera bag and place it by the front door so you don’t forget it on the way to parties and holiday activities.

Now is the perfect time to set up a system for your pictures so you can share them right away at the end of the season. For digital photos, here are a few of my favorite online sites that let you upload the photos and gives your family and friends the opportunity of getting their own prints.

  • Shutterfly
  • Snapfish
  • Flickr
  • Picasa

If you use a camera with film, drop off the rolls at a one hour development shop and make sure to pick them up right away so they don’t pile up. Label and store the photos in chronological order for now and you can quickly sort through them later.

Remember, organized storage is key to helping make holiday “set up” and “tear down” easier every year!

Normally, I take organizing very seriously.  After all, it’s my passion!  However, these playful folders definitely caught my attention.  As long as you’re filing and not piling, it’s okay to have a little fun while organizing.

Cleaning Up Cord Clutter

As our attachment and reliance on electronic gadgets grows, so do the cords that come with them! How do you keep them all organized?

  • Use cable ties, such as the ones pictured above, and assign colors to different types of cables.
  • Another neat organizer for your headphone cords is this very simple cable wrap.
  • Label, label, label! It’s not just for file folders and bins - use a labelmaker to print easy-to-read names for each of your cables. This is especially useful if you have a lot of cords running together under a desk.
  • If you’re in a household where each member has their own cell phone, digital camera, and iPod, it might be time to invest in a charging station. Not only does it hide the cords and keep them neat, it serves as a landing pad for all those small gadgets.

November 6, 2009

Sunday, November 15th - Downtown Seattle

1pm - 4pm

It’s time to clear out your closet clutter. As you assess your items, keep these questions in mind: Have you worn it in the past month? Do you love it? Does it fit? If you answered “no” to at least one of the questions, this event is for you!

Bring your clothes, outerwear, shoes and accessories to show and swap with others. We’ll have racks and tables to display your items. Anything that doesn’t find a new home will be donated immediately after the event. There will also be fun giveaways and a raffle!

4 Purging Tips You Can Use

this entry has 0 Comments/ in General Organizing, Residential Organizing / by Innovatively Organized
November 2, 2009

There’s a saying, “The more things you own, the more they own you.”  This is so true!  Don’t be a prisoner to things.  Learn to let go and achieve more freedom and space.  Here are a few things to remember:

  • If you’re not using it, you don’t know what to do with it, or if you don’t love it, it’s clutter.  Give the item away to someone who will use it or sell/donate it.
  • How many things have you saved or put aside thinking that you’ll get it fixed, altered or cleaned?  Make a note on your calendar or to-do list to take action - or get rid of it.
  • Everyone has items that hold sentimental value - old jewelry, holiday trinkets, vacation souvenirs, even hand-me-down clothes that are the wrong size or falling apart.  If the special item is taking up precious space, try keeping a memory of it by taking a photograph and putting it in a scrap book.
  • Set a good example for your children.  Teach them that a clean and organized bedroom and playroom is important in keeping them organized in school and work.

Quick Tips

If you work from your car, set it up as a functional office with storage and office supplies like a desk.
Use unexpected free time wisely – while waiting in line or sitting in traffic, have a list of things you can do then.
When downloading an image or file, make sure to save it in a specific folder rather than to your desktop.
Set rules in your email to automatically filter messages, saving you time and keeping your inbox organized.
Very illuminating going over my weekly review checklist and realizing that the parts of the work I dread doing are the things I don’t have systems and structure for… I can see already that this is going to be a big help, and wish I’d gotten started sooner! I’m feeling optimistic, and looking forward to solving the problem(s) and getting my time more focused on the patient work I love to do!Dr. Deborah E., ND
IO has changed my whole perspective on being organized. You guys rock.Amy T., Blueflame Heating & Air Conditioning
Share part of your inbox with your assistant so you can efficiently delegate email responses to your assistant.
Try setting time limits for tasks that easily eat away your day, like responding to email or checking Facebook.
For each task on your to-do list, add its estimated completion time. This gives you a realistic view of everything on your plate for the day.
You definitely demonstrated what you do best – being organized! It was very apparent that you’ve gone through training and certification and truly know your business.Jeanette H., BPW
